Act I, Scene I

Loving all the fresh flowers in the neighborhood markets. So inspiring! // A beloved piece of decor and a nostalgic reminder of SCAD.
Brooklyn is crammed with thrift stores, and I've already found some great new wardrobe additions. // I'm enjoying finally having a dedicated space to draw and make.
Bingo + Sazeracs + making new friends // Manhattan on a clear winter night is one of my favorite things about living here.

hello from NYC

After several days of comfy, slouchy clothes suited to cross-country road trips and to carrying heavy objects up 3 flights of stairs, it felt really nice to get dressed up the other day. Going through that morning ritual helped make my new apartment feel a little bit more like home. Every new place has an adjustment period, and it hasn't quite sunk in that I live in Brooklyn now. Soon I'll be feeling like a local, so I might as well enjoy looking at my new home through the lens of a visitor.

I know this white-walled corner is a super exciting backdrop, but hey it's warmer inside and I still need to take some walks to scout out new picture-taking opportunities. So stay tuned for more insights into my NYC life (especially once we get our internet installed).

feeling the love

It's the 14th of February and you know what that means... Valentine's Day, the most polarized of all the holidays. Either you LOVE it or you HATE it. While I'll heartily admit that Valentine's day is an over-hyped, over-romanticized holiday, I like it because really it's just an excuse to eat copious amounts of sweets, wear bright colors and give people lots of hugs. Which is pretty much what I do all year round anyway.

The timing of this years Valentine's Day season is especially poignant because it's the last bit of time I'll get to spend with my dear old Louisiana loved ones for the foreseeable future. In 2 days I am moving to New York City, hopefully permanently. I've landed an internship and have decided to just go and pursue my dream of designing prints and textiles. Needless to say, the next few months are going to be wildly interesting. I can't wait to see what the city has in store for me and to share some of those adventures with you guys.

And I'm hoping my story turns out a little like this one...

Faux

I've been seeing a lot of drop-waist silhouettes around the internet world lately, and my inner flapper is cartwheeling with joy. Unfortunately, most of my drop waist style clothing is either a little too costumey or dressy for everyday wear. Instead I decided to create a faux drop waist dress by layering a light sweater and skirt with similar drape. And a looong necklace to tie is some subtle flapperism.

the newest addiction

Last week I got a Pintrest. Yes, I am late to the Pintrest party, but I was attached to my Tumblr as a source of inspiration and saw Pintrest as a tad redundant. Boy was I wrong. Pintrest is the place where you put the things you see on Tumblr and everywhere else on the internet. It is an organizers paradise. Instant mood boards? Yes please!

Tangerine

Orange and blue and grey. This should not be a surprise. That those heels are the most comfortable ones in the world might be.

Fancy Day

I'm not one to accessorize like crazy or pile on the glitz. I'm trying to get into the accessory game, but I still tend to err on the side of simple. My favorite pieces are the ones that tell a story. And these necklaces definitely do. The pearls were brought back to me from China by my world-traveling uncle and are uniquely shaded in purple and pink. The other necklaces were my grandma's, gifted to me from my mother's stash of treasure. I cherish the pieces that were hers... it's a little bit like wearing a hug.
